The Chicago HBCU Alumni Alliance was established in September 2015 to unite the Chicago HBCU alumni chapters and alumni throughout the Chicagoland area. Since its inception, the Chicago HBCU Alumni Alliance has created and supported various opportunities to increase exposure for students to higher education options, provide access to entrepreneurial resources, and encouraged HBCU unity and alumni involvement. The Alliance has also supported various community service events including an annual Toy Drive.
History & Purpose
In January 2004, the Metro-Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Florida A&M University hosted a Mixer as a fundraiser and invited other HBCU alumni chapters to join in on the fun and the opportunity to recruit new members. While only a handful of Chapters were active participants, this was enough to spark a fire that led to the creation of the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance (AHBCUAA).
The HBCU Alumni Alliance, Inc. (HBCUAA) is a non-profit community-based organization that consists of Historically Black Colleges & Universities’ Alumni chapters in the Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC and Chicago, IL Metropolitan areas. We collaborate mainly to strengthen the community through community based programs and we exist to support the mission of HBCUs by supporting underserved students interested in attending HBCUs. The HBCUAA is at the forefront of a growing movement to raise awareness, provide resources and offer promising programs that are aimed at supporting at-risk individuals and the communities where they live. Our work is never done alone. We partner with several organizations working toward a common goal. We believe, there is strength in numbers, and that’s why we leverage relationships and collaborate with like-minded organizations because we know it is one of the most powerful and productive investments we can make.
